We all have secrets. Some secrets are kept to protect those we love, while others merely protect ourselves. My twin sister, Betty, and I always wondered why our father never mentioned his family. His early life and the life of his parents before him remained a closely-guarded secret. His reason for not telling us anything about this in itself revealing. If a man has nothing to say, he most likely has something to hide. In 2008, my sister and I began researching our family history and made the shocking discovery that our grandfather, Frank Gale, was a murderer. He had done this deed in the town of McDonough in Central New York in the year 1903. Of course we wanted to know more. Our journey took us inside a world of unimaginable horror and dark secrets. After three years of research, we at last were able to uncover the truth behind one of Upstate New York's most heinous crimes, as well as our family's past...a past that had remained in darkness for over a century.
